Good (I'm not saying great) American food, and lots of it. This is a 'eat all you want' buffet restaurant that caters to those with a hefty appetite, and is family-oriented.

My husband and I have frequented this establishment, and have found the food quality to be 'above standard' for a 24-7 restaurant... In other words, much better than a 'Denny's'! The meals that are served, I call "pretty" because they are consistently served in an attractive manner with tiny, colorful umbrellas that adorn your food. The most frustrating experience we've had is watching our food sit under the 'heat lamps' while our tummies growl for the processed, trans-fat-laden foods that we ordered.

I'm sorry Mike, but your review is seriously lacking in substance. Does being between HWY 169 and and 171 justify this as a good place to eat? I think not.

Are you done 'testing'? OK then - How can anyone give a decent review about McDonald's, or any fast-food chain restaurant?! Until they serve even quasi-quality food, which includes trans-fat-free cooking, I would not include them in a food review. That is my opinion.

So Drew, you say the shistawook or schawarma is "so good". Tell me why and I will up my star rating.

My husband and I ate at this restaurant for the first time on July 8, 2008. Sadly, I compare it to overpriced 'diner food'. Beautiful little restaurant overlooking the Arcata Airport runway, with a friendly staff - but the size of the portions were small, the food mediocre, and the prices steep. The salad consisted of shredded lettuce that looked like it expired yesterday. Included with our dinner was a tiny portion of vegetables: overcooked carrots, cauliflower and peppers. The baked Alaskan halibut and garlic mashed potatoes were bland. I would not recommend this restaurant and have no plan, or desire, to eat there again.

Excellent authentic Mexican cuisine! My husband and I frequent this establishment and are never disappointed with the service or the food. Fresh baked tortilla chips and Chapala's own Salsa are immediately brought to your table by a friendly host. The menu includes appetizers, side dishes, and a huge variety of lunch and dinner items. Beer, wine and mixed drinks are also served. Do not expect to wait for your meal - or to leave hungry. Kudos to the owner for running an outstanding restaurant!

This local cafe serves a breakfast and lunch menu that caters to herbivores and carnivores - using fresh, local and organic food, at affordable prices in a friendly and casual atmosphere. Unfortunately, the last time we ate there (a few days ago) my Eggs Benedict was cold - and reheating in the microwave made the sauce coagulate; my son's sandwich came with mushrooms when he requested none; the water glasses were dirty... a disappointment all around. At this point I would not recommend this restaurant and if I could, I would change the star rating to two.

Delicious Chinese Food. You can order off the menu, or eat from a buffet that offers a variety of foods. My son spent time in China and says the food served here is "authentic". Take-Out is also available for a reasonable per pound price. Very yummy, and they cook without any MSG.

Excellent Italian Restaurant! The Stuffed Chicken Alfredo (tender chicken breasts stuffed with artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, onions, sweet basil, spinach and ricotta cheese, smothered and baked in a special white sauce, served with fettuccine) is my favorite - and quite outstanding - as are most items on the menu. Soup and Salad for lunch is filling and delicious. Beer and Wine are served (no mixed drinks). Have any problem with your meal? Call the restaurant and ask for the owner - he is very approachable and will do whatever it takes to make it right. That has been my experience.

This is not a restaurant - however, the Pearl Lounge does serve food off a limited but tasty menu from the adjoining restaurant (during a limited time period). This is the place to go for the ambiance: modern and classy - with an elegant marble top bar, radiant-heat flooring, and fiber optic lighting behind, and underneath the bar. They have music on the weekends, but the acoustics aren't great - and when it gets crowded, do not expect great service (unless you have a seat at the bar, you will be struggling for a place to order drinks). The Pearl has a full-liquor bar ~ including nearly every Tequila and Vodka selection on the North Coast, but be prepared to pay up - drinks are quite pricey. If you want to impress your date, this is a nice place to go, but go early and find a place at the bar, and be willing to pay up.

Excellent Food. Nice atmosphere. This is a quality restaurant that serves quality food. You will feel welcome whether you come dressed up or in jeans. Reservations are a must on a holiday. They have an awesome salad bar, and a creative and delicious menu. The only item I would not recommend on the menu are the "Fish and Chips". I found the fish to be too greasy.

The restaurant's atmosphere is a bit plain and somewhat sterile (in my opinion) but the food is outstanding... generous portions and a quality menu. YUM.

My husband and I frequent this establishment because it is close to home and they make a decent margarita. The BBQ boneless wings are pretty good. For a somewhat 'greasy spoon' restaurant, it's not bad. If you're trying to eat healthy, go for a basic salad or an item from the 'Weight Watcher's' selection. This Applebee's is not trans fat free.

Overpriced and below-average food. Casual to 'funky' atmosphere.

I have a friend who loves this place, and I don't get why. The menu items are overpriced and the quality is poor. Your water is served in a plastic glass, and the napkins are paper. You cannot find a lunch item for under $10. I have eaten at this restaurant a few times - paid for by others - and have always been disappointed.

Most of the food at this establishment is cooked in a microwave. May as well buy the microwaved product at the store and save yourself some money. We have eaten here for brunch a few times, and have found it to be a disappointment each time.
